Unconventional Resource Technology

Tricon offers customized workflows to address the complexity of your unconventional reservoir, any survey constraints or limitations, and budgetary considerations. Several options are available depending on the log data provided and the client’s requested deliverables. The schematic workflows are shown in Options 1 and 2 followed by a detailed description.

Option 1: Azimuthal Velocity Analysis

The RNMO for each gather will be translated to a velocity correction to update the velocity volume for each azimuth range. We will identify Fast Velocity and Slow Velocity Azimuth, and compute Maximum minus Minimum velocity as a fracture density estimator. This result may be co-rendered with a selected curvature attribute.

  • PSTM gathers (Raw, Final)
  • Raw shots with geometry attached
  • Pre-migration gathers (client picks processing stage)
  • Final RMS velocity field
  • PSTM stack OVG volume – full azimuth (Raw, Final)
  • Conditioned OVG gathers
  • Residual NMO volume for each azimuth range
  • Vfast, Vslow, Vdifference, delta volumes
  • Fracture density, orientation, intensity maps – target oriented

Option 2: Azimuthal Brittleness Analysis

Angle stacks for each azimuth range will be created using the clean PSTM/PSDM gathers as input. A Prestack 3D Inversion can be run to estimate Poisson’s Ratio and Young Modulus for each azimuth range selected. We will identify Maximum Poisson’s Ratio (Poiss_fast) and minimum Poisson’s Azimuth (Poiss_slow azimuth), and compute Maximum minus Minimum as a fracture density estimator. In many situations, a combination of the above options is required to decrease the uncertainty in the fracture characterization analysis. If the seismic resolution is a barrier to success on the project, we have our resolution enhancement process available to run on the stacks and angle stacks.
